Quincy Compressor to Consolidate Operations at Alabama Headquarters by 2015
Friday, 01 August 2014
Quincy Compressor LLC, an industry-leading developer and distributor of reciprocating and rotary screw air compressors, among other air treatment solutions, confirmed the impending shutdown of their Quincy, Illinois facility and the job consolidation of their U.S. manufacturing operations at the company’s Bay Minette headquarters in Alabama. John Thompson, Quincy Compressor LLC President, shared that the resolution has been difficult course of action but was finalized upon undertaking extensive talks with Quincy community leaders and the union.
Since May, Quincy Compressor has had discussions with the union leaders of the Local 822 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW). After further review of the local community leaders’ proposals, the company deemed that the decision to move was crucial.
“Unfortunately, the combined union and civic incentives fell short of the annual savings required to retain operations in Quincy,” stated Thompson.
It has not yet been confirmed how many employees from the Quincy, Illinois facility will be accommodated in the Bay Minette headquarters. However, 152 positions are certain to be affected by the closure.
“At this point, the exact number is unknown, however there will be a number of positions available (in Bay Minette),” said Quincy Compressor’s marketing services manager, Jacqueline Gay. She also noted that all affected employees are welcome to consider employment in the Alabama headquarters, although possible positions of the displaced employees have not yet been confirmed.
Over the next 12 months, transitions on the company operations will be underway According to a press statement recently issued by the company, Thompson and the rest of Quincy management officials also assure all Illinois employees will receive financial assistance together with career transitioning and support planning throughout this period.
One quarter of Quincy Compressor’s workforce comes from their Illinois facility, while 187 are currently employed at the Bay Minette headquarters.
